Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was right

Sometimes scientists make mistakes and label species as extinct when they are really not. Perhaps the most astounding example of this is the White Island volcano crater in New Zealand, currently inhabited by a lone, pink dinosaur (pinkosaurus plasticus). While it is unknown if there are other such dinosaurs on the island, we can only assume that there must be a considerable population to have kept the species alive over the last few million years.
