The Sci Fi Channel in the US is planning a number of new miniseries. This doesn't sound bad until you notice that the miniseries are based on certain things that really shouldn't be messed with.
Perhaps Battlestar Galactica will fare being adapted into a miniseries, but I doubt the same could be said for Myst. That's right, the computer game. They're planning a four-hour miniseries that will contain a lot of book reading, walking about staring at the pretty scenery and pushing buttons. Forgive me if that appeals to you, but I don't think it's going to work.
As if to prove how terribly silly they really are, one of the other choices for a miniseries is Roger Zelazny's The Chronicles of Amber. Taking two complex, 5 book epics and crushing them into just four hours doesn't sound like a good idea to you and I, but apparently it sounds perfectly reasonable to a television producer. As if to make this even funnier, the screenplay is to be written by Richard Matheson. Take a look at his list of credits. The Incredible Hulk, The A-Team and Knight Rider don't really seem to stand up to Corwin's adventures, do they?
