You know what’s funny about keeping a blog? Yes, keeping; it’s a little bit like having a pet, except it doesn’t quite die when you forget to feed it for a month or two.

What’s funny about keeping a blog is that it gives you an undeniable archive of exactly what thoughts, moments, and feelings seemed so real and important they were worthy of documenting for the whole world to see. There’s no denying that we all think and say those incredibly silly and often embarrassing things, but rarely do we document them so they’re sitting there, staring us in the face all those years later.

Knowing that the anything written may become one of those moments you wish to hide from raises the “regret-proof” standard that defines what does and doesn’t get posted. Eventually, there is almost nothing safe enough to show to the world.

So what is a personal blog without these moments? How do you feed the pet without giving too much of yourself?
